I've hit a cooking rut - Help me break out!!
Mind you, I didn't start cooking 37 blog posts ago. I've been cooking for years with moderate success, minimal failure, but a record for playing it safe. I'm not sure if my culinary skills are learned, genetic, or a little bit of both but they lean heavily toward the Mediterranean region and hesitate to venture outside.
Partly due to this, I think my taste buds are becoming numb. I need something different. Something new. So I am requesting requests. Sure, I could peruse my fave sites for this week's dinner plans. But I'd rather take requests (orders?) from you.
I think/hope I have enough readers to fill a 5 dinner week. So tell me the name of a dish you love/want to try/think I should try. If you have a link or a recipe, great. If not, all the more fun as I try to create it.
And if you want to drive/fly to Lancaster, you are more than welcome any night of the week. We eat around 5:30.

I have a recipe for rice that is cooked with green tea and soy sauce and then shitakes and edamame are added. It is delicious and definitely not mediterranean ;) I'll see if I can dig it out of my inbox. You could pair this with breaded, pan fried tofu or fish.
ReplyDeleteI have a pork shoulder sitting in my freezer and I would love for you to inspire me.
ReplyDeleteAnother idea - lamb for Easter.
Also, you might get some inspiration from my favorite cooking blog (I mean...second favorite cooking blog...) www.thepioneerwoman.com/cooking.
Bez - Are you no longer veg? I can't imagine a pork shoulder in your freezer!
ReplyDeleteWe're doing Easter breakfast at my aunt's but no reason why we can't do Easter #2 on Monday?
J - Yum! I gotta scope out the safety of shitakes for pregnancy, but if she can't eat it, I will make it for a lunch! Thanks!
I have been on a slippery slope away from the veg for a couple years. It started with eating fish on vacation to Spain...then eating fish when i got home from Spain... Then in combination w/ some real cravings, i read the Ominivore's Dilemma (highly recommend) and decided I was down with eating what I've dubbed "happy meat." So, I eat meat from the Farmer's Market. I know where it comes from and that it is treated well, grass fed, livin' the good life. Better to have farms out there than strip malls and McMansions. At least that is what i tell myself when i am enjoying the bacon. YUM.
ReplyDeleteAlso, i went ahead and made rack of lamb last night w/o your help. It was super easy. I just rubbed the lamb with some olive oil, rosemary, kosher salt and pepper and popped in a very hot oven for 20 min. It was not cooked perfectly (a little too rare close to the bone) but it was DELISH and easy (not cheap).
I know the slippery slope well! It started with the abundant prawns at SF restaurants, and progressed into an eventual rediscovery of just how dman good meat can be.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry - I've never cooked lamb. I actually still struggle with cooking raw meat. Don't know if I could venture to that...
But...on a totally different note, I am so happy and excited that you read this blog! Thank you!!
