Fajitas and Failure

If you want to be reminded of your unemployed, failure status in the universe of career-minded society, try to secure yourself a rental unit. I am so thankful to all of the potential landlords who have frowned upon my lack of job. They've made me feel really great about myself and my accomplishments. I want to thank them also for making Plus One feel like his acquisition of a low-paying temporary position in a country of 13 million unemployeds isn't quite good enough.

Thank you for reminding me that I'm relying on my parents for financial help and that my educational background and work haven't served me to get to a stable place today. You make me feel like a superstar accomplished 26 year old when you ask if you can call my parents for verification that their bank accounts are stable and generous.

In order to meet one of these said landlords yesterday, I had to cook dinner - fajitas - in two parts. Prep and make. Prior to 4 pm I marinated the chicken in a mixture of cumin, chili powder, garlic salt, hot sauce and red pepper, sliced the peppers and onions, chopped the cilantro and chive for the rice, and laid out the other ingredients. After returning home, we turned the rice cooker on, sauteed up the chicken and "fajita", heated refried beans, made tortillas on the grill and finished with the mandatory cheese and sour cream.

We eat well, surrounded by family, and we are lucky in many ways. Even though we are poor, those things should be enough.
